For those who don’t know the meaning of procrastination, check your dictionary it would help to learn a new word while you are at it learn at least two more words. Procrastination is a demon I have fought with almost all my life, 😂 my mum says my national anthem is “I WILL”. So y’all remember when I said I have made my demons my bitch…?, it was a success for a while till procrastination came back to haunt me. Normally my posts are ready by Thursday, then Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday mornings are used to proof read and edit, but for the last 3 weeks I find myself just writing down my post on Monday morning, that’s why there have been more typographical and grammatical errors (I am not that fluent in English 🤪) in the last three posts.
Basically a lot of us are fighting this demon, so I composed this post this morning to tell y’all that I have decided to bring out the big guns to fight this hideous beast and I am going to share the process and tactics of this war because I care about you guys also.
GET ORGANIZED
You can’t get any work done if you don’t know the task that needs to be completed. Y’all remember my birthday post about resuming my self care routines, well I organized a planner that tells me what to do at all times down to when to brush and for how long (I know I am a geek), I call it “oppression self care; jobless edition”. Corona has done a lot of havoc which includes rendering me jobless lol.
SET DAILY ACHIEVABLE GOALS
One of the reasons I procrastinate is when the task at hand seems too big, so it is advised to break down the task. So instead of inputting “I have to read a book” in my planner I’ll just say “read chapter 4 of # book”, so if I read further it’s even better.
SET A DEADLINE
Basically, every task has a deadline but it’s advisable we create our personal deadline. For example I post on my blog every Monday, my personal deadline would be Friday.
GET RID OF DISTRACTIONS
So I know I get distracted by things like Instagram etc so if I want to write I’ll just turn off my phone or keep it where I’d be too lazy to reach it. For other distractions like annoying siblings, I just play music to drown their constant chatter. There are some distractions that are internal like my bad habit of getting lost in oblivion lol, I am usually blank during this period. I haven’t quite figured out how to avoid it but I am working on it. (🤣🙄 shit I just did it, got lost in oblivion)
TAKE A BREAK
Trust me allowing your brain to have a breather for about 10-30 mins while working is good. Take a walk, clear out your wardrobe, listen to music, surf the internet, day dream whatever makes you relax. I have birthed some amazing ideas during this period.
USE INCENTIVES
Everybody loves being rewarded, so why don’t you reward yourself with a snack or a television show whenever you complete a task.
TELL SOMEONE ABOUT YOUR GOAL
It’s actually so easy to forget or put off an assignment if you are the only one accountable for it. Tell a friend or a family member so that if you are going off track they could snap you back in line. It’s also nice to have someone to celebrate your victories with, no matter how little they are.
Lol I am just in the first stage of the “duck procrastination” project, so if you have this same problem join me so we could finally get rid of a common demon.
I hope I don’t procrastinate this duck procrastination project🥴.
Xoxo Coco
